Through the low clouds I saw a dark shape with a sharp edge. It could have been an unlit section of cloud. Two little lights seemed fixed to it. I watched for several minutes, unable to decide whether I was seeing anything at all.

driftwood, were the edges sharp throughout, or only when the town lights brightened the cloud?

cloudbreak: only in patches. When I looked away and back I could not find the same outline. Leaning toward cloud, but it certainly startled me.
